  • Our OBD software is available for computers, tablets and phones
  • What are OBDII, OBD-II scan tools and OBD2 software?

On-Board Diagnostics, or OBD, is a computer-based system built into modern automobiles that monitors emission related controls, performance of the engine, and detects malfunctions. OBD-II systems provide access to the health information of a vehicle and access to numerous parameters and sensors from the Engine Control Unit. The OBD2 system offers valuable information, including diagnostic trouble codes, when troubleshooting problems.

OBD-II scan tool is a device that is used for communicating with a car's OBD system and accessing the OBD information. In other words, a scan tool is a small adapter attached to a car. Our OBD diagnostic software talks to the car via this adapter. It is the software that brings the real value for you. That's why we created OBDAutoDoctor.

  • How does the OBDAutoDoctor diagnostic software work?

To start communicating with your car, you need to have ELM327-based adapter and a OBDII compliant car. Just connect the OBDII adapter to the physical 16-pin OBD connector plug located near the dashboard (typically below the streering wheel), launch the OBD2 software, and you are ready to go. The connection between the interface and the software can use bluetooth, WiFi, serial port or USB connection depending on the type of hardware you have.

  • Why do I need OBD software?

Are you tired of spending a lot of money on expensive dealer visits? Guess what? OBDAutoDoctor can reduce the amount significantly. By identifying the minor problems before they become major problems can save you a lot of trouble. For example, by diagnosing a rather low-cost repair such as the replacement of malfunctioning oxygen sensor, OBDAutoDoctor can save you the cost of replacing the expensive catalytic converter later.

You can also save time and money by making sure your vehicle is ready for emissions testing before taking your car to the inspection. By using OBD AutoDoctor you can determine if your vehicle is ready for the tests. You can save even more if you are DIY mechanic. Just use OBDAutoDoctor to identify the problems, and do the repairs yourself. For example, by replacing an easy-to-change mass air flow sensor in 15 minutes yourself can save you as much as $200.

  • How do I know whether my vehicle is OBD II compliant?

As a general guideline, your vehicle is most likely to be OBDII compliant if it fulfills one of the requirements listed below:

    • USA: All cars and light trucks manufactured since 1996
    • EU, Gasoline (positive-ignition engine): Registered in the EU after 1 January 2001 (EOBD)
    • EU, Diesel (compression-ignition engine): Registered in the EU after 1 January 2004 (EOBD)
    • Japan: All vehicles since 2004 (JOBD)

For vehicles that don't belong to any of those groups, refer to the vehicle's owner's manual or the Internet for the compatibility info.
