What OBD-II adapters are supported?

OBDAutoDoctor supports all ELM327 based hardware interfaces including but not limited to:

What connection methods are supported?

At the moment, OBDAutoDoctor supports scantools with serial port, USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi (WLAN) connections:

  • Serial port
  • Bluetooth via virtual serial port and natively using Broadcom, Microsoft or Bluez bluetooth stacks
  • USB via virtual serial port
  • WiFi

What are the system requirements for the desktop version ?

OBDAutoDoctor minimum requirements are 20 MB of free disk space, monitor resolution of 800x600 and a means to connect to the hardware interface depending on the type of the interface (USB or COM port or Bluetooth device). The software supports the following operation systems:

  • Windows 7 (32-bit & 64-bit)
  • Windows Vista (32-bit)
  • Windows XP SP2 (32-bit)
  • Linux (32-bit & 64-bit)

Do I need a serial number for the demo version?

No, you don't. The free demo version works without a serial number but it can be unlocked to a full version with a valid licence key.

Can single license key be used on a dual boot computer running for example Linux and Windows?

Yes, you can use single license key on a dual boot computer. The same license key will work on both operating systems.

Can I transfer the license to other computer?

Yes, you can transfer the license to other computer you own. The license allows you to use the application in single computer at once. If you reinstall or upgrade the operation system, you can also reinstall OBDAutoDoctor. Also if you upgrade the hardware or buy a new computer, you can always reinstall the software and your license will work.

How do I install and run the application on Linux?

If you are using Ubuntu or its derivative, download the Ubuntu .deb package. Then issue the following commands on terminal:

  • sudo apt-get install libqtgui4 (to download and install a required package)
  • sudo dpkg -i obdautodoctor.deb (to install OBDAutoDoctor, fix the filename)
  • obdautodoctor (to lauch the application)

For any other Linux distribution, download the tar.gz package. In addition, make sure your operating system has libqtgui4, libbluetooth3, and libc6 installed. Then issue the following commands on terminal:

  • tar xvzf obdautodoctor.tar.gz (to extract the package, fix the filename)
  • obdautodoctor/obdautodoctor (to lauch the application)

The software is not available in my language. Can I help?

Yes, if you are willing to provide us some high quality translations for your natively spoken language, we'll be happy to give you a free license in return.

Are there any known issues?

No there are not but please notice that the OBD service IDs $08 and $0A are not implemented yet. In addition, note that in order to use the features of the software, your car must support the functionality.
